Winter Poem

I will gaze at the stars,
And maybe even Mars,
They are all so bright,
On a wonderful clear winter night,
Feeling the breeze,
Watching the trees,
They're swaying with grace,
In this peaceful little place,
Time moves on, more and more,
It's getting colder than it was before,
People are sick and sneezing,
Because this weather is so freezing,
One of the prettiest times of year,
Winter season is finally here,
32 is the magic number,
For a white blanket as you slumber,
Yummy things like hot chocolate and s'mores,
Cookies, treats, and sweets galore,
A fascinating season Winter is,
With its beauty, peace, and bliss,
Oh man, how wonderful Winter can be,
From the holidays to the scenery,
My favorite thing, however, I'm having trouble deciding,
Everything is great, and it's only just arriving.

Let it Snow! – Sammy Cahn & Jule Styne

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awZBFQjqC9U

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've brought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss good night
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And, my friend, we're still good-bying
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Winter Wonderland - Dick Smith, Felix Bernard

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_j05PFxN_M

Sleigh bells ring
Are you listening
In the lane
Snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight
Walking in a winter wonderland

Gone away, is the bluebird
Here to stay, is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along
Walking in a winter wonderland

In the meadow we can build a snowman
And pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say are you married
We'll say No Man
But you can do the job
When you're in town

Later on
We'll conspire
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid
The plans that we've made
Walking in a winter wonderland

Sleigh bells ring
Are you listening
In the lane
Snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight
Walking in a winter wonderland

Gone away, is the bluebird
Here to stay, is a new bird
He's singing a song
As we go along
Walking in a winter wonderland

In the meadow we can build a snowman
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with Mr. Snowman
Until the other kiddies knock him down

When it snows
Ain't it thrilling
Though your nose, is a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way
Walking in a winter wonderland

Jingle Bells - James Lord Pierpont

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeNJmOsBS94

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight!

Chorus:
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
Oh! What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh. Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon, Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side,
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
He got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot.

Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight
and sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bobtailed Bay
Two forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! You’ll take the lead.

Like Snowflakes (4-Part Round) (Tune: Are You Sleeping)

Dance like snowflakes, dance like snowflakes
In the air, in the air
Whirling, twirling snowflakes
Whirling, twirling snowflakes
Here and there, here and there

Oh! How Lovely is the Evening (3-Part Round)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R8X89BbJp4

Oh, how lovely is the evening, is the evening.
When the bells are sweetly ringing, sweetly ringing.
Ding, dong, ding, dong.

Tyrolean Trampling Song (2-Part Song) - Switzerland

Tra la la la la la la la,
Tra la la la la la la la,
Tra la la la la la la la,
Tra la la la la la la la.

I'm a Great Big Snowman (Tune: I'm a Little Teapot)

I'm a great big snowman,
Tall and fat.
Here's my tummy.
Here's my hat.
Raisins for my eyes,
And a carrot nose,
I'm all snow from head to toe!

If All of the Raindrops

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3fM4_snYwE

If all of the raindrops were lemon drops and gum drops,
Oh, what a rain that would be!
Standing outside with my mouth open wide,
Ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all of the raindrops were lemon drops and gum drops,
Oh, what a rain this would be!

If all of the snowflakes were candy bars and milkshakes
Oh, what a snow that would be!
Standing outside with my mouth open wide,
Ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all of the snowflakes were candy bars and milkshakes
Oh, what a snow that would be!

If all of the sunbeams, were bubble gum and ice cream
Oh, what a sun that would be!
Standing outside with my mouth open wide,
Ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all of the sunbeam, were bubble gum and ice cream
Oh, what a sun that would be!

Pet Snowball Poem

I made myself a snowball
Just as perfect as could be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me
I gave it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then, last night it ran away,
But first . . . .it wet the bed!

This Winter I Went Sledding – Kenn Nesbitt

This winter I went sledding.
I crashed into a tree.
I ran into another one
while learning how to ski.

I slipped upon the sidewalk;
I didn't see the ice.
A snowball hit me in the head.
(My sister's not too nice.)

My snowman toppled over.
It landed on my head.
My tongue got frozen to a pole.
I pulled it off. It bled.

I froze my toes and fingers.
They hurt so much I cried.
So, yes, the snow is pretty,
but I think I'll stay inside.

Forty Years on An Iceberg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RNTjj1qZv0&list=PLAHph1aU9eVkoOzCaLj_BTFeTb-EyhWOP&index=11
(The words are a bit different than what we use in Canada)

Forty years on an iceberg (hold up 4 fingers)
Rolling along with the tide (roll hands and wrists over each other ending with one hand and one foot forward – almost like a skaters pose)
Nothing to wear but pajamas, (slide hands up body from toes to head)
Nothing to do but slide (slide hands down body from head to toes)
The wind was getting colder, (shiver, arms around body)
Jack Frost began to bite (smack hands together like a crocodile)
I think I’ll have to hug # polar bears
To keep me warm tonight! (Hug the number of friends that was indicated in the song – the leader of the song picks the number each time)

Frosty the Snowman - Walter "Jack" Rollins & Steve Nelson

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6zW225k_O0

Frosty the Snowman, was a jolly happy soul,
with a corn cob pipe and a button nose,
and two eyes made of coal.

Frosty the Snowman, is a fairytale, they say.
He was made of snow, but the children know he came to life one day.

There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found,
for when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around!

Frosty, the Snowman, was alive as he could be;
and the children say he could laugh and play,
just the same as you and me.

Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
look at Frosty go.
Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
over the hills of snow.

Frosty the Snowman, knew the sun was hot that day,
so he said, "Let's run, and we'll have some fun now, before I melt away."

Down to the village, with a broomstick in his hand,
running here and there, all around the square,
sayin', "Catch me if you can."

He led them down the streets of town, right to the traffic cop;
and only paused a moment, when he heard him holler, "Stop!"

Frosty, the Snowman, had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye, sayin' "Don't cry, I'll be back again someday."

Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
look at Frosty go.
Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
over the hills of snow.

Suzy Snowflake - Sid Tepper & Roy C. Bennett

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBpFprdX8-w

Here comes Suzy Snowflake
Dressed in a snow white gown
Tap, tap, tappin' at your windowpane
To tell you she's in town

Here comes Suzy Snowflake
Soon you will hear her say
Come out everyone and play with me
I haven't long to stay

If you wanna make a snowman
I'll help you make one, one, two, three
If you wanna take a sleigh ride
The ride's on me

Here comes Suzy Snowflake
Look at her tumblin' down
Bringing joy to every girl and boy
Suzy's come to town

My Favorite Things - Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein II

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYulpUXzsck

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

Repeat

Snow Towards Evening – Melville Cane

Suddenly the sky turned gray,
the day,
which had been bitter and chill,
Grew soft and still.
Quietly
From some invisible blossoming tree
Millions of petals cool and white
Drifted and blew
Lifted and flew,
Fell with the falling night.

Taps

Day is done
Gone the sun
From the lake,
From the hills,
From the sky,
All is well
Safely rest
God is nigh.
