Hi Everyone,

Spring is in the air!  The warm weather, the buds on the trees, flowers starting to bloom .... a time of rebirth.

At the same time, many units are busy planning their year end camps and celebrations.  And I know you all have alot to celebrate this year.

This month, I have put together a campfire you can use at your year end camp around a real live roaring campfire.  I hope you enjoy this campfire.

My wish for all of you is to have a safe and healthy summer.  I am looking forward to creating "more campfire magic" with all of you in August!  Go Well and Safely!

Yours in Guiding

In the gloaming, in the gloaming

Come sing and be merry

Campfire - Austria

Gather round the fire tonight, Ho-la hi, Ho-la ho.

Let us sing with all our might, Ho-la, hi-la ho.

Chorus:

How we remember those happy days

Ho-la hi, ho-la ho,

Spent in the light of a campfire blaze

Ho-la hi-la ho.

First a round and then a song, Ho-la hi, Ho-la ho.

Then some yells though not too long, Ho-la hi-la ho.

Round the world our campfires burn, Ho-la hi, Ho-la ho.

While our thoughts to B-P turn, Ho-la hi-la ho.

As We Trek Along

As we trek along together,

As we trek along.

Shall we sing a song together,

Shall we sing a song?

Love life, laughter and sorrow,

Who knows what comes tomorrow

Who knows and who cares,

As we trek along.

As we trek along together,

As we trek along.

Shall we sing a song together,

Shall we sing a song?

Though the way may be weary

Still our hearts will be cheery

If we sing a song

As we trek along.

The Happy Wanderer – Friedrich W. Moller

Chorus:

Val-der-ri, val-der-ra

Val-der-ri, val-der-ra ra ra ra ra ra

Val-der-ri, val-der-ra

(Sing the last line of the verse)

I love to go a-wandering

Along the mountain track

And as I go, I love to sing

My knapsack on my back

I love to wander by the stream

That dances in the sun

So joyously it calls to me

Come join my happy song

I wave my hat to all I meet

And they wave back at me

And blackbirds call so loud and clear

From every greenwood tree

Oh, may I go a-wandering

Until the day I die

And may I always laugh and sing

Beneath God’s clear blue sky

Cuckoo (3-Part Round)

'Twas on a summer's evening,

I walked the forest through

When suddenly I heard it,

A sweet and low cuckoo

Cuckoo, cuckoo,

Cuckoo, cuckoo cuckoo

Cuckoo, cuckoo,

Cuckoo, cuckoo cuckoo

Mister Moon, Mister Moon you're out too soon,

The sun is still in the sky.

Go back to bed and cover up your head

And wait 'till the night draws nigh.

Oh, How Lovely is the Evening (3-Part Round)

Oh, how lovely is the evening, is the evening.

When the bells are sweetly ringing, sweetly ringing.

Ding, dong, ding, dong.

A Training Course Song (Tune:  My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean)

We came up to Sandy Beach Campsite,

A Guiding course for to run,

And once we arrived at the Campsite,

We sure had a whole lot of fun.

Chorus:

Camping, camping, it’s good to be camping again, again.

Camping, camping, it’s good to be camping again.

The tents were erected quite quickly,

In various sizes and shapes,

They drooped at the corners most sickly

And hung from the ridge pole like grapes.

A session of feeding and cooking

Told how to cook food in a hole.

Of course, if you wanted to eat it,

You had to crawl in like a mole.

Fires were lit on the roadway,

Trees were chopped down in a rush,

And after some more about kitchens,

We all stomped around in the bush.

They Say at Guide Survivor Camp

They say at Guide Survivor Camp, the bugs have gone away

But every time you inhale there's something in your way!

Chorus:

Oh, I don't want no more of Girl Guide Camp

Gee Mom, I wanna go

Back where the toilets flow

Gee Mom, I wanna go home.

They say at Guide Survivor Camp, the toast is mighty fine

A piece fell off the table and killed a pal of mine!

They say at Guide Survivor Camp, the beds are mighty fine

You wake up in the morning with wrinkles down your spine!

They say at Guide Survivor Camp, the eggs are mighty fine

One rolled off the table and started keeping time!

They say at Guide Survivor Camp, the cocoa's mighty fine

It's swell for cuts and bruises, and tastes like iodine!

They say at Guide Survivor Camp, the porridge is mighty fine

You save a little extra and give your shoes a shine!

The First Aider that we have here, they say she's mighty fine

But when I broke my finger, she broke the other nine!

The tents they have at Survivor Camp, they say they're really neat

But when you go inside them, they smell like stinky feet!

The latrines they have at Survivor Camp, they say they're mighty fine

When you sit upon them, they suck in your behind!

The showers that they have here, they say are mighty fine

When you turn them on, they squirt out yellow slim!

And now I've been to Guide Camp I think its mighty fine

I'm going back there next year to have another good time!

Beaver Song

Beaver 1, Beaver all, Let's all do the Beaver Call.

Ch ch ch, ch ch ch, ch ch ch, ch ch ch

(hold hands, limp-wristed, in front of your chest)
Beaver 2, Beaver 3, Let’s all climb the beaver tree.

Ch ch ch, ch ch ch, ch ch ch, ch ch ch

Ch ch ch, ch ch ch, ch ch ch, ch ch ch

(funky dancing, spin around in circles)

The Bear Song

A repeat after me story!

The other day (The other day)

I met a bear (I met a bear)

Up in the woods (Up in the woods)

Away up there (Away up there)

The other day I met a bear

Up in the woods away up there.

He looked at me

I looked at him

He sized up me

I sized up him

He looked at me I looked at him

He sized up me I sized up him.

He said to me

Why don’t you run

I see you ain’t

Got any gun

He said to me why don’t you run

I see you ain’t got any gun

And so I ran

Away from there

But right behind

Me came that bear

And so I ran away from there

But right behind me came that bear

Ahead of me

There was a tree

A great big tree

O Lordy me

Ahead of me there was a tree

A great big tree O Lordy me

The nearest branch

Was ten feet up

I’d have to jump

And trust to luck

The nearest branch was ten feet up

I’d have to jump and trust to luck

And so I jumped

Into the air

But I missed that branch

Away up there

And so I jumped into the air

But I missed that branch away up there

Now don’t you fret

Now don’t you frown

‘Cause I caught that branch

On the way back down

Now don’t you fret now don’t you frown

‘Cause I caught that branch on the way back down

That’s all there is

There ain’t no more

Unless I meet

That bear once more

That’s all there is there ain’t no more

Unless I meet that bear once more

On the Loose – Judith Keller

Have you ever watched a sunrise turn the sky completely red?

Have you slept beneath the moon and stars a pine grove for your bed?

Do you sit and talk with friends though not a word is ever said?

Then you’re like me and you’ve been on the loose.

Chorus:

On the loose to climb a mountain,

On the loose where I am free,

On the loose to live my life the way I think my life should be.

For I’ve only got a moment and the whole world yet to see,

I’ll be looking for tomorrow on the loose.

There’s a trail that I’ll be hiking, just to see where it might go

Many places yet to visit, many people yet to know.

For in following my dreams, I will live and I will grow.

In a world that’s waiting out there on the loose.

So in search of love and laughter, I am travelling ‘cross this land.

Never sure of where I’m going, for I haven’t any plans.

And in time when you are ready, come and join me, take my hand.

And together we’ll share life out on the loose.

Pass It On – Kurt Kaiser

It only takes a spark to get a fire going

And soon all those around can warm up to its glowing

That's how it is with Guiding

Once you've experienced it

You spread your joy to everyone

You want to pass it on.

What a wondrous time is spring when all the trees are budding

The birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming

That's how it is with Guiding

Once you've experienced it

You want to sing, it's fresh like spring

You want to pass it on.

I wish for you my friend, this happiness that I've found

You can come join in, it matters not where you're bound

I'll shout it from the mountain tops

I want the world to know

The joy of friends has come to me

I want to pass it on.

Michael, Row the Boat Ashore – Negro Spiritual

Michael, row the boat ashore, alleluia!

Michael, row the boat ashore, alleluia!

Sister, help to trim the sails, alleluia!

Sister, help to trim the sails, alleluia!

River Jordan is chilly and cold, alleluia!

Chills the body but not the soul, alleluia!

River Jordan is deep and wide, alleluia!

Milk and honey on the other side, alleluia!

Kum-by-ya (3-Part Song)

Part 1

Kum-by ya, my Lord Kum-by-a.

Part 2

Kum-by-a, Kum-by-a

Part 3

Somebody’s crying, Lord.  Kum-by-ya

Somebody’s crying, Lord.  Kum-by-ya

Everyone:  Singing rain, wind, fire, Lord.  Kum-by-ya.

Somebody’s praying …..

Somebody’s singing …..

Somebody’s caring …..

With the Scent of Woodsmoke

With the scent of woodsmoke drifting on the air,

And the glow of firelight we always love to share,

Visions of campfires all return,

And as the logs flame up and burn,

We dream of bygone campfires and long for those to come.

Tongues of yellow fire flickering up on high,

Reaching twisting fingers up to a starlit sky,

Voices recall songs old and new,

Songs once dear to our fathers too,

Who dreamed of bygone campfires and longed for those to come.

Gently dying embers cast a rosy glow,

Voices slowly sinking to tones so soft and low,

Slowly upon the still night air,

Fall faithful voices hushed in prayer,

That dream of bygone campfires and long for those to come.

Taps

Day is done, Gone the sun,

From the lake, from the hills, from the sky.

All is well, Safely rest.  God is nigh.

Camp Friends

When you dream of camp in years to be,

Above all else you’ll prize

Those friendships formed in camping days,

Beneath the open skies.

For comrades of the water ways,

Of trail and glowing fire,

Relive glad days, retell old tales

Of which they never tire.

You have shared so much in sun and rain –

Foolish things and wise,

And ‘neath the candid gaze of starts

Have worn no cheap disguise.

You have known the peace of silent hills,

Have learned what e’er betide

Through paths of life turn east or west

Camp friends can ne’er divide.

A-camping we will go.

A-camping we will go.

Hi Ho the Derry-O.

A camping we will go.
