Happy September!

Thanks for tuning back into Guiding with Guider Dusk!

September always brings a sense of new beginnings.  The crispness in the air, the start of a new school year, a new Guiding/Scouting year.  Having wrung out all the summer fun, the idea of a chance to start with a clean slate always sounds good.  Often we are sad for the end of summer but at the same time looking forward to new routines and a change.  Sound familiar?

September is a time to renew friendships, but more importantly “MAKE NEW FRIENDS.”  I know with every September, new friendships will be made, which create everlasting memories to take me through the years.  Whether it is through school, guiding, scouting, dance ….. I know my treasure chest of friends will grow …. It’s better than any silver or gold!

So to start, this time of newness and “NEW FRENDS,” this month’s campfire is all about making new friends.

Make new friends but keep the old,

One is silver and the other gold.

A circle's round, it has no end,

That's how long I want to be your friend.

Enjoy your new beginnings and adventures!

Campfire Friends – Kate Fearey

We come together in friendship, we sing together for fun.

Hearts and voices blending, in Guiding we are one.

Chorus:

Music joins us together,

Our circle’s open whatever,

You’re welcome whoever you are,

Whoever you are.

Our love and harmony sharing, through music, rhythm and dance,

Come join us in our circle, we’re Guiding in our hearts.

The more we get together, together, together,

The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.

For your friends are my friends,

And my friends are your friends,

The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.

Buddies and Pals (2-Part Song)

You and me, we’re gonna be partners.

You and me, we’re gonna be pals,

You and me, we’re gonna be partners:

Buddies and pals.

You and me, we started off strangers,

You and me, we came from afar,

You and me, we started off strangers;

Now we are friends.

Down by the bay

Where the watermelons grow

Back to my home

I dare not go

For if I do

My mother will say....

Have you ever seen a.... (insert silly line here)

Down by the bay!

Silly lines (use one of these, or make up your own!)

Did you ever see a llama, wearing pink pajamas?

Did you ever see a goose, kissing a moose?

Did you ever see a whale with a polka-dot tail?

Did you ever see cat, wearing a hat?

Did you ever see a hare, brushing her hair?

Did you ever see a turtle, wearing a girdle?

Did you ever see a quail, missing his tail?

Did you ever see a fox, carrying a box?

Did you ever see a mouse, sweeping out the house?

Did you ever see a dog, taking a jog?

Did you ever see a bird, speaking a word?

Did you ever see a moose with a loose front tooth?

Did you ever see a fly wearing a tie?

Did you ever see a bear combing its hair?

Did you ever see a goat sailing a boat?

Did you ever see a snake baking a cake?

Did you ever see a hog walking a dog?

Did you ever see a dog dancing with a frog?

Did you ever see a bat kissing a cat?

Did you ever see rats wearing silk hats?

Did you ever see beans as big as submarines?

Dum-dum-da-da

Da-dum-dum-da-da

Da-dum-dum-dum-de-dum-da

Dum-dum-da-da

Da-dum-dum-da-da

Da-dum-dum-dum-de-dum-da

Actions:

1st time through:  drum hands on thighs

2nd time:   two slaps on your thighs, two slaps on your right-

hand neighbour's thighs, two slaps on your own thighs, two

slaps on your left-hand neighbour's thighs, repeat

3rd time:  two slaps on your thighs, cross your arms to do two

slaps on each of your neighbours' closest thighs, uncross to

do two slaps on your thighs, spread your arms to do two slaps

on each of your neighbours' closest thighs, repeat

A Garden Of Friendship

For the garden of your daily living plant three rows of peas:
1.  Peace of mind
2.  Peace of heart
3.  Peace of soul

Plant four rows of squash:
1.  Squash gossip
2.  Squash indifference
3.  Squash grumbling
4.  Squash selfishness

Plant four rows of lettuce:
1.  Lettuce be faithful
2.  Lettuce be kind
3.  Lettuce be patient
4.  Lettuce really love one another

No garden is without turnips:
1.  Turnip for meetings
2.  Turnip for service
3.  Turnip to help one another

To conclude our garden we must have thyme:
1.  Thyme for each other
2.  Thyme for family
3.  Thyme for friends

On My Honour – Cindy Dasch

Chorus:

On my honour I will try

There's a duty to be done and I say "aye",

There's a reason here, for a reason above

My honour is to try and my duty is to love

No one needs to know my name

If I hurt someone, then I'm to blame

If I help someone, then I've helped me

And that's the way that it should be

I've tucked away a song or two

If you're feeling low, there's one for you

If you need a friend, then I will come

There's plenty more where I come from

Come with me where a fire burns bright

We can even see better by its own light

We can find more meaning in a campfire glow

Than we’ve ever found in a year or so

We've a promise to always keep

And sing "Day is Done" before we sleep

We’re Girl Guides together and when we're gone

We'll still be a-trying and a-singing this song.

Sing Hosanna!

Give me oil for my lamp, keep it burning

Give me oil for my lamp I pray

Give me oil for my lamp, keep it burning

Keep it burning till the light of day

Chorus:

Sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna

Sing Hosanna till the break of day

Sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna

Sing Hosanna till the break of day

Give me joy in my heart keep me praising

Give me joy in my heart I pray

Give me joy in my heart keep me praising

Keep me praising till the break of day

Give me peace in my heart keep me resting

Give me peace in my heart I pray

Give me peace in my heart keep me resting

Keep me resting till the break of day

Give me love in my heart keep me serving

Give me love in my heart I pray

Give me love in my heart keep me serving

Keep me serving till the break of day

Softly Falls the Light of Day / Taps – Old German Melody

Softly falls the light of day

As our campfire fades away

Silently each Guide should ask

Have I done my daily task?

Have I kept my honour bright?

Can I guiltless sleep tonight?

Have I done and have I dared

Everything to be prepared?

Taps

Day is done, Gone the sun,

From the lake, from the hills, from the sky.

All is well, Safely rest.  God is nigh.

Friendship is there where ever you go
Friendship is there when you over dose
Friendship loves and Friendship cares
Friendship is life with a little dares
