Happy October Everyone!

Hope all of you are off to a great start either it be with the school year, Guiding or Scouting year ……

I am really looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving in a few weeks …. A special time for family, friends, turkey and all the fixin’s!  As I sit here planning this month’s campfire, I realize just how blessed we are to live in a country like Canada, peaceful, loving, no war … how truly thankful I am to know my children are safe, fed and healthy!

SO, for this month’s campfire, I would like all of you to take time to reflect and be thankful for all of the gifts that are given to us each day ….

WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR?

Each day has possibilities for meeting people, engaging in new adventures, acquiring knowledge, experiencing new wonders, participating in the miracle of life. What I am thankful for above all is life with all its many possibilities and loved ones and good friends to share it with like all of you who follow me monthly if it be through this website or my Facebook Resource pages.

I am very thankful that God has blessed me with such amazing people in my life.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sunshine warm upon your face,

The rain fall soft upon your fields

And until we meet again someday,

May God hold you in the palm of God’s hand.

May the memories that we have shared linger on and on.

I’m Thankful Each Day – Poem by P. K. Hallinan - Unknown

I'm thankful each day for the blessings I see
and for all of the gifts that are given to me.

And counting the stars at the edge of the sea,
I can't help but feel they were put there for me.

I'm thankful for summers of warm golden days.
I'm thankful for autumns of orange pumpkin haze.

I'm thankful for meadows and bright colored flowers.
I'm thankful for raindrops and soft summer showers.

Each sunset is special - each sunrise is new.
Each breeze in the trees is a promise come true.

Each evening's a wonder where beauty abounds.
Each morning's a harvest of new sights and sounds.

And it's nice to know that beneath winter snow,
the blossoms of spring are beginning to grow.

I'm thankful for friends for laughing and sharing.
I'm thankful for family for loving and caring.

I'm thankful for all the kindness I see.
I'm thankful for peace and pure harmony.

My body's a present of perfect design.
My mind is a power as endless as time.

And if I ever worry that trouble is near,
I always remember there is nothing to fear.

For each hour is laden with infinite love.
Each second brings comfort and joy from above.

And I guess in the end the best thing to say,
is I'm thankful for living - I'm thankful each day

I’m Thankful for Friends….

Campfire Friends

We come together in friendship, we sing together for fun.

Hearts and voices blending, in Guiding we are one.

Chorus:

Music joins us together,

Our circle’s open whatever,

You’re welcome whoever you are,

Whoever you are.

Our love and harmony sharing, through music, rhythm and dance,

Come join us in our circle, we’re Guiding in our hearts.

Vive l'Amour

Let every good fellow now join in a song, vive la compagnie

Success to each other and pass it along. Vive la Compagnie

Chorus:

Vive la, vive la, vive l'amour

Vive la, vive la, vive l'amour

Vive l'amour, vive l'amour

Vive la compagnie

Come all you good people and join in with me, vive la compagnie.

And raise up your voices in close harmony. Vive la compagnie.

A friend on your left and a friend on your right, vive la compagnie.

In love and good fellowship let us unite. Vive la compagnie.

With friends all around us, we'll sing out our song, vive la compagnie.

We'll banish our troubles, it won't take us long. Vive la compagnie.

Now wider and wider our circle expands, vive la compagnie.

We sing to our comrades in faraway lands. Vive la compagnie.

Should time or occasion compel us to part, vive la compagnie.

These days shall forever enliven our heart.  Vive la compagnie.

I’m Thankful for the beautiful country I live in….

Something to Sing About Oscar Brand

I have walked on the sands of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland

Lazed on the ridge of the Miramichi

Seen the waves tear and roar on the stone coast of Labrador

Watched them roll back to the Great Northern Sea

Chorus:

From the Vancouver Island to the Alberta Highland

'Cross the Prairies, the lakes to Ontario's towers

From the sound of Mount Royal's chimes, up to the

Maritimes

Something to sing about, this land of ours

I have welcomed the dawn from the fields of Saskatchewan

Followed the sun to the Vancouver shore

Watched it climb shiny new up the snow peaks of Caribou

Up to the clouds where the wild Rockies soar

I have heard the wild wind sing the places that I have been

Bay Bull and Red Deer and Strait of Belle Isle

Names like Grand Mere and Silverthorne

Moose Jaw and Marrowbone,

Trails of the pioneer, named with a smile

I have wandered my way to the wild wood of Hudson Bay

Treated my toes to Quebec's morning dew

Where the sweet summer breeze kissed the leaves of the maple trees

Sharing this song that I'm singing to you

Yes there's something to sing about, tune up a string about

Call out in chorus or quietly hum

Of a land that’s still young, with a ballad that's still unsung

Telling the promise of great things to come

Walk Around – Marion Kay

Rivers that sparkle and rush along free

Forests so tall and green

Dressed in her finery, Canada fair

None are as lucky as we.

Chorus:

Oh-h-h, walk around, look around

Take the time to say

How lucky I am that I live in this land

Of Canada today.

All kinds of people from faraway lands

Blended into one

Customs and cultures we're willing to share

As true Canadians.

Pioneers suffered to settle this land

The New World was its name

Fairness and freedom they wanted for all

Let's live up to what they claim.

Miles of highway are ours to explore

An ever-changing view

Four different seasons we know and enjoy

Whether rich we be or poor.

I’m Thankful for Mother Nature and her many gifts …

'Twas on a summer's evening,

I walked the forest through

When suddenly I heard it,

A sweet and low cuckoo

Cuckoo, cuckoo,

Cuckoo, cuckoo cuckoo

Cuckoo, cuckoo,

Cuckoo, cuckoo cuckoo

Mister Moon, Mister Moon you're out too soon,

The sun is still in the sky.

Go back to bed and cover up your head

And wait 'till the night draws nigh.

Listen to the Earth (4-Part Round) Dorothy Lind

Listen to the Earth; it's singing to me.

Hear all nature's harmony.

Waterfalls and raindrops, wind and sea.

Sing the song of the Earth to me.

I like the flowers, I love the daffodils,

I like the mountains, I love the rolling hills

I like the fireside, when all the lights are low,

Boom-ti-ar-a, Boom-ti-ar-a, Boom-ti-ar-a, Boom

Great green globs of

Greasy, grimy gopher guts

Munched up monkey meat

Little birdies’ dirty feet

French-fried eyeballs

Swimming in a pool of barf

And I forgot my spoon

Great green globs of

Greasy, grimy gopher guts

Mutilated monkey feet

Chopped up baby parakeet

French-fried eyeballs

Sailing in a creamy puff

Oops! I forgot my spoon

But there are straws….

Worms

Everybody hates me!

Nobody likes me,

I'm going to the garden to eat some worms.

Chorus (Repeat after each verse):

Big fat juicy ones

Long green slimy ones,

And itsy, bitsy, fuzzy, wuzzy worms.

Yum Yum.

First you get a bucket,

Then you get a shovel,

Oh how they wiggle and squirm.

Down goes the first one,

Down goes the second one,

Down goes the third little worm.

Round goes the first one

Round goes the second one

Round goes the third little worm.

Up comes the first one,

Up comes the second one,

Up comes the third little worm.

Everybody likes me,

Nobody hates me!

I'm going to the garden to eat some worms.

I’m Thankful for being able to laugh and be silly …

Father Abraham

Father Abraham had seven sons,

Seven sons had Father Abraham.

And they could not walk

And they could not talk

And they could not even sing.

Notta one... shake right hand.

Notta two... shake both hands.

Notta three... shake both hands and one foot.

Notta four... shake both hands and both feet.

Notta five... shake both hands, both feet and nod head.

Notta six... shake both hands, both feet, nod head and bend at waist.

Notta seven... shake both hands, both feet, nod head, bend waist and turn around.

Oh I have an auntie, an Auntie Monica

And when she goes shopping they all say "Ooh-la la!"

Because her feathers swinging, her feather's swinging so

Because her feathers swinging, her feather's swinging so.

Oh I have an auntie, an Auntie Monica

And when she goes shopping they all say "Ooh-la la!"

Because her hat is swinging, her hat is swinging so,

Because her hat is swinging, her hat is swinging so,

Because her feathers swinging, her feather's swinging so

Because her feathers swinging, her feather's swinging so.

Other Verses:

Because her muff is swinging, her muff is swinging so...

Because her skirts are swinging, her skirts are swinging so...

Because my aunt is swinging, my aunt is swinging so...

Actions:

Feather swinging - wave hand back and forth above head

Hat swinging - using both hands, swing an invisible wide- brimmed hat

Muff swinging - hands together in front of you, swing arms

Skirt swinging - sway invisible skirts around your legs

Aunt swinging - swing your whole body!

Gathering of Nuts - Skit

Vincent - I am the famous artist, Vincent Van Go Go. I have come here this evening at great expense to create one of my living nature paintings which will express the atmosphere of this camp!  First I am going to need some trees. (Two trees are selected from the participants in the audience, and are directed where to stand.  They wave their arms gently.)

Vincent - Now I will need some birds to twitter among the trees.  (Three birds are selected and they move around the trees making twittering sounds.)

Vincent - (Stands back to view scene) Perhaps a sun to shine on everything. (A tall participant stands on a bench and smiles brightly.)

Vincent - (Again viewing) It's not right yet. I know, some rabbits hopping around. (Some Leaders are chosen for rabbits)

Vincent - One last touch. A babbling brook. Unit Leader, will you be the brook, you're always babbling? (The brook takes his place.)

Vincent - (Turns to audience) There it is, another Vincent Van Go Go original nature scene. I call it "The Gathering of the Nuts."

I’m Thankful for LOVE and Sisterhood…

Everyone Knows It

Everyone knows it, but how can you show it

That love is a wonderful thing.

Try to believe it, and then you will live it

And see what the future will bring.

Chorus:

A-a-a-a-a-a-ah.

Everyone knows it, but how can you show it

That love is a wonderful thing.

Laughter or crying, there's no use denying

That love holds each life in its hands.

So, do what you can to be living in harmony,

Meeting what love may demand.

You've got a lot of it, so you must share it,

Proving that love isn't cold.

Give it to everyone, don't miss out anyone.

They'll give it back threefold.

Sister, sister walk with me

I’ll walk with you if you’ll walk with me

I’ll walk with you if you’ll walk with me

Sister won’t you walk won’t you walk with me.

Sister, sister sing with me

I’ll sing with you if you’ll sing with me

I’ll sing with you if you’ll sing with me

Sister won’t you sing won’t you sing with me.

Sister, sister camp with me

I’ll camp with you if you’ll camp with me

I’ll camp with you if you’ll camp with me

Sister won’t you camp won’t you camp with me.

Sister, sister remember me

I’ll remember you if you’ll remember me

I’ll remember you if you’ll remember me

Sister don’t forget don’t you forget me.

Thank You!

This Pretty Planet (3-Part Round) – John Forster & Tom Chapin

This pretty planet spinning through space
You’re a garden, you’re a harbour
You’re a holy place
Golden Sun going down
Gentle blue giant, spin us around
All through the night
Safe till the morning light.

Taps

Day is done

Gone the sun

From the lake,

From the hills,

From the sky,

All is well

Safely rest

God is nigh.
